Hey FLIR ONE app developers,

Exciting news! The new third-generation FLIR ONE® and FLIR ONE Pro thermal imaging cameras for either iOS or Android (USB-C) are now available for pre-order with product deliveries starting in late June – you can pre-order yours at www.flir.com/flirone. The latest FLIR ONE is FLIR’s most affordable smartphone thermal camera while the first edition FLIR ONE Pro is the most advanced FLIR ONE to date. Both include several new and improved features including the OneFit™ adjustable connector, an improved FLIR ONE App, and Smartwatch compatibility. A Micro-USB version will also be available for both the FLIR ONE and FLIR ONE Pro later this summer.

What does this mean for app developers?flir-approved First, please start thinking now about how your apps may work differently to deliver value to both the consumer and professional FLIR ONE user base. Perhaps a free “basic” version for consumers and an “enhanced” version with additional features for the professionals? Second, be ready for a new version of the FLIR ONE SDK – it’ll be in the hands of Early Developer Program members shortly and is expected to be publicly available in August. Third, please be aware that all existing FLIR ONE apps that have been approved for use on the Gen 2 (current) hardware will need to be resubmitted and re-approved for use on Gen 3 hardware. There’ll be a new identifier logo for Gen 3 apps that indicate they’ve been tested and approved by FLIR, which you’ll receive upon approval. More on this in upcoming posts.

Finally, we teamed up with our friends at Angelhack as a keynote sponsor the AH10 New York City hackathon June 10th and 11th. It was great connecting, learning, creating, sharing, and having fun with the NYC hacker community, and you can check out all the cool AH10 hackathon projects. Thank you to all the NYC hackers that became part of the FLIR ONE developer community this weekend, and congratulations to Sunscreen Checker on winning Best Consumer app and to FLIR Eye for the Remote Guy on winning Best Professional app! Special props and congrats also to FLIR Eye for the Remote Guy for being named the Grand Prize winner – you’re going to Santa Barbara to present your project to FLIR execs!

Happy developing,

Cal
